LOUISVILLE, KY…Metal Sales Manufacturing Corporation, the premier nationwide provider of metal panels for the building and construction industry, brings colorful durability to the new Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) Animal Community Center in Milpitas, CA by providing nearly 1,000 square feet of metal panels.

Metal Sales’ 7/8” Corrugated, 24-gauge panels surrounds the new facility, offering a long-lasting sustainable exterior with a vibrant aesthetic. Five colors were chosen to bring visual interest to the structure, including Copper Penny, Tahoe Blue, Terra Cotta, Hemlock Green, and Jade Green. Like all Metal Sales colors, these are ENERGY STAR®listed, signifying that they have been proven to substantially contribute to energy savings due to their high solar reflectivity. This is of particular importance for HSSV, as the facility is the first animal shelter in the nation to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The building’s eco-friendly features include an extensive onsite solar energy generation system, a highly-efficient kennel cleansing system to minimize water usage, stained concrete flooring to reduce the need for chemical cleaning, bioswales to remove pollution from rainwater run-off, and artificial turf to lower irrigation water demand. Metal Sales panels, which are both durable and reflective, contribute to the LEED credits by reducing solar heat into the building and lowering cooling costs. Furthermore, the Metal Sales standard 45 year paint warranty ensures long-lasting quality to minimize costly repairs and repainting.

The $25 million facility spans nearly five acres and was funded through public donations. Its “L” shaped site plan encourages a sense of community as it organizes the building’s many public entrances around a common entry space. For more than 80 years, HSSV has served Silicon Valley and has helped to find homes for more than 500,000 animals. The new building will facilitate improved care for animals, and its colorful metal paneled exterior provides a cheerful environment for employees, volunteers, and community members to enjoy.

“The metal panels look beautiful and the facility owners are very pleased with the final results,” says Rich Palmer, Vice President of Kodiak Roofing and Project Manager of the HSSV Animal Community Center. “They installed exactly as planned, which is crucial when sticking to a tight construction schedule.”

When choosing which metal products company would supply the panels for HSSV, Palmer explains that Metal Sales was the obvious choice, as he has used their panels for multiple projects and can trust the company to be reliable.

“We have a very solid relationship with Metal Sales,” says Palmer. “We work with them whenever possible because they have an excellent product and outstanding customer service.”

Completed in March 2009, the project team consisted of architect Swatt Miers, Emeryville, CA, installer Kodiak Roofing, Lincoln, CA, and general contractor Robert L. Brown Construction, Martinez, CA.
